The Nokia C7 is an excellent all-rounder, but it really excels as a satellite navigation device. The Ovi Maps app that comes with it is one of the best on the market – irrespective of price – and the fact it can be used without a phone signal makes it even better.
To download maps for a specific country, start Ovi Maps and click on Update. Then click on Add new maps. You’ll be able to select from different continents, and then hand pick the different countries you’re likely to visit. There’s no point in downloading the countries you won’t be visiting in the short term, as it’ll just clog up your storage space.
It’s then just a simple case of tapping on the country you want to download maps for. It makes sense to use a Wi-Fi connection, as it’s both quicker and it won’t take up your Nokia C7′s allotted internet allowance.
Once you’ve downloaded the maps you want – it can take some time as they’re large files – head back to the main menu in Ovi Maps, click on the spanner icon in the bottom left corner, tap Internet and then choose Offline. You’re then good to go – using the maps on your Nokia C7 and the phone’s GPS chip, rather than downloading maps on the move.
